Pont du Gard, Nimes

Posted 1 year ago by samantha in response to avatar jimmy's question: I’m writing a paper about roman sites and I intend to visit Pont du Gard in Nimes, can you please tell me more about it? (give a different answer) .

The Pont du Gard is a arched aqueduct-bridge with three levels, almost 50 m high and 275 m long, built by romans in 19 BC as part of a long system of canals to bring water from Uzes to Nimes. It is a very well preserved roman site located 23 km northeast of town. To get there take a bus from the bus station in Nimes on rue Ste-Felicite, the ticket is 5.40 euro. There are seven daily buses that arrive at Pont du Gard in about 45 min. You can also book a guided tour from the tourist office in Nimes, on 6 rue Auguste.
