I want to visit that prehistoric cave near Montignac, but I heard that visitors are allowed inside only by special authorization. Anybody reveal the mystery?(give a different answer) .
Well, you're partly right. The Cave of Lascaux was discovered in 1940 by 4 teenagers, and it was closed to the public 20 years after in order to preserve the paintings drawn by Stone Age men some 17,000 years ago. Instead, a replica was built 200 yards away, named Lascaux II, and imitating all the original representations of bison, horses, bulls and boars. They even used only the pigments available to Cro-Magnon man. The genuine cave can be visited once a year in the Discovery exclusive Tours, only in groups up to 5 people. Admission is 7$.
