The city centre is Presqu'Ile, a peninsula surrounded by the rivers Rhone and Saone. Place des Terreaux is the masterpiece of the centre, a square displaying a 19th century fountain, sculpted by the creator of New York's Statue of Liberty. Next door, in the same square, there's an astonishing collection of French paintings and sculptures at the Museum of Fine Arts, and a cloister garden, ideal for picnic lovers.
