Saint Bernadette, the patron of Lourdes city

Posted 1 year ago by avatar lizette in response to avatar gossiper's question: What happened in Lourdes that it became such a great pilgrim attraction?Sorry for my ignorance. (give a different answer) .

It's the visions of Virgin Mary that a little peasant girl had, back in 1858. Her name was Bernadette Soubirous and she saw our Mother 18 times in a cave. In 1933 the Vatican declared her a saint, so the is widely known as Saint Bernadette...the religous complex that turned the sleepy Lourdes into a pilgrim destination, housing 5 million visitors anually, is her victory.
