Grenoble is known for its Fort de la Bastille which was a redoubtable prison, situated on the north side of the Isere river. Once you get up there you'll have a fantastic view over the city and its surroundings
To get to the Fort take the ski-lift, a two ways ticket is 5.50 euro or 4.40 for students. The telpher leaves from Quai Stephane Jay between the Marius Gontard and St. Laurent Bridges. You should leave early in the morning to avoid queues.
