anne's question:
Why do gypsies travel to Camargue area in France at the end of May? Seems like a mystery to me.....(give a different answer) .
On 24th May, gypsies gather in the village of Stes Maries de la Mer in Camargue region to honour their protectress, Sarah. The legend says the servant girl came from Egypt, the country believed to be the spring of the gitane race, and that she was accompanying Mary Magdalene, Martha, Mary Jacobe and Mary Salome. Exiled from Judea, in 40 AD, their boat arrived on the shores, and the local church is claimed to shelter their bones. The gypsies take the wooden statue of Sarah to the sea in a singing and dancing procession.
