Avignon has many sights, historic monuments worth visiting and one is Palais des Papes situated in Place du Palais . The palace was built during the 14th century as a fortress for the pontifical court, deep empty halls proving the amount of wealth gathered by popes. You’ll pay 9.50 euro at the entry or 7.50 with a tourist pass. In the cold season (November-March) it is opened only from 9.30 to 5.45.
