The Festival d’Avignon is an international event of dance, music and theatre and it’s being held every year from July to August. You can ask for information at the Bureau du Festival located on 20 rue du Portail Boquier, Espace St Louis. I went two years ago to Avignon and it happened to be the festival month. Performing events occurred all over town, staged at historical monuments and in the animated streets announced by buskers and leafleters.
